What is Centripetal Force?

Centripetal force (Fc) is the force required by the body of mass m to hold in circular motion at a distance of R, from the centre of the circle at velocity v.

If a body travels around a circle at constant speed, the velocity is changed by direction. So, the body experiences an acceleration that is directed towards the centre of the globe. As per Newton’s second law of motion, a body that experiences an acceleration must also undergo a net force called centripetal force. The path of the net force is in the same direction as the acceleration.
